Week of Honors 2012 is scheduled for Friday, April 13, through Sunday, April 22.

More than half a century ago, a West Virginia University tradition was born that eventually became known as Greater West Virginia Weekend. Many activities took place on that weekend including Link Day exercises during which campus honoraries “tapped” new members in colorful ceremonies in Woodburn Circle or on the terrace of the Wise Library. In addition, a Mother’s Day Sing featured a vocal competition among student organizations. The weekend’s events also included tours of campus sites, as well as opportunities for families to meet professors, mentors, and other students. In the late 1960’s, following a realignment of the University calendar and social changes that dictated other student priorities, the event faded out of existence. In 1995, the Weekend of Honors was established to revive this tradition. It continues to be an opportunity for West Virginia University to honor those who have excelled in the complex and competitive academic world.

In 2011 West Virginia University decided to extend Weekend of Honors to an entire week to better accommodate and allow more time to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students, faculty and staff.
